Mezcla table for &Tradition

A table is where different people come together for different reasons. To meet and discuss a topic. To agree, disagree or just laugh and enjoy each other’s company. It’s this idea of mixing people, ideas and elements that lies at the core of Mezcla, a table concept by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, characterised by a mix of exclusive materials.

The Spanish word for “mixture” is Mezcla,” explains Hayon. “For me it captures the essence of different people coming together and diverse design elements together – in a series of tables where the materials, shapes and colours could meet and greet, so to speak.”

Passepartout lamps for &Tradition

Just like the name implies, the Passepartout Lamps by Spanish artist – designer, Jaime Hayon, act almost like a frame that enhances the visual appeal of whatever they are illuminating. For every type of architectural setting, these lamps are sensational ambient devices which can be used to enhance unique form.

How do you add a lamp to illuminate a space – without the lamp being too anonymous or too imposing? It is a question Hayon has often asked himself. “The answer came from the picture frame. The picture is the focus and the frame is there to guide your eyes to it. Of course, with a lamp you have light, without it you have darkness. So the lamp is actually the unsung hero that brings any setting to life.”

Place the Passepartout Lamps on the wall or ceiling, in the living room or corridor and they will never look out of place. Choose from three differ-white. With the Passepartout lamps, you can even cluster the various colours and shapes together to create a unique aesthetic effect.

As for the illumination factor, it is nothing less than fantastic. The Passepartout Lamps use built-in LED technology that ensures an energy-designed to provide illumination that is soft and soothing, emitting a light that’s dispersed uniformly throughout the space. According to &tradition’s Brand Director Martin Kornbek Hansen, “With the Passepartout Lamps, we have combined decorative and technical lighting private and architectural buildings. Available in a variety of shapes and colours that add a decorative accent – with a touch of personality.”

Technicolor

“Technicolor” Concurrent with “Merry Go Zoo,” the High presents “Technicolor,” an immersive installation in the Museum’s Anne Cox Chambers Wing featuring dramatic new works by Hayon that the Museum commissioned to grow its significant 21st century design collection. This is the first U.S. solo exhibition for the artist. Six large-scale tapestries, inspired by designs Hayon created for last summer’s “Tiovivo” piazza installation, hang from the ceiling. Hayon worked with the renowned Tilburg Textile Museum’s Textiel Lab in the Netherlands to weave the vibrant works using a mix of traditional fibres and non-traditional materials, such as rubber. Pedestals on the floor display quirky, stacked ceramics with colourful, expressive designs Hayon hand-painted with coloured glazes. All of these works showcase his new explorations in colour and technique.

Catch Lounge for &Tradition

In response to the successful launch of &tradition’s catch chair by acclaimed designer Jaime Hayon, followed by our swivel based version, we are pleased to introduce this newest member of the series:

The Catch Lounge Chair.

With its outstretched arms like a friend ready to greet you with a warm, welcoming hug, the Catch Lounge Chair builds on Hayon’s penchant for humour and personification. At the same time, it introduces a higher back and elongated seat in a singular shell supported by a metal armature. The result is a leisure chair that’s angled back just a bit – so you can sit down, relax and, as the name implies – lounge.

“The more we work with Hayon, the more we appreciate his ability to bring humanity and warmth to all his concepts,” says &tradition Brand Director Martin Kornbek Hansen. “Historically, classic lounge chairs had a somewhat aloof aspect to them. However Hayon has managed to make the Catch Lounge Chair more personal and inclusive, setting the scene for a more intimate atmosphere and conversation. Which coincides with our Danish idea of cosy. Something we call hyggeligt.“

As Hayon sees it, “A lounge chair should be inviting to look at. In a way, it should be almost irresistible. Meaning you can’t help but sit back, get comfortable and have a chat. That’s what I wanted to achieve. With the added element of the two arms, like a friend, happy to welcome you.”

Mar de Avellanas & Inventario

“Mar de Avellanas, is not only a place I designed, it’s also a place I take my friends and my clients to when they come to Valencia. I love their food, they understand gastronomy at the highest level, cleverly using fresh ingredients from the market, that always surprise me.

It is no surprise then that the cuisine at this Valencia restaurant acts as a metaphor for Hayon’s approach to the design, just as only the finest ingredients pass through the kitchen, his thoughtful, stylish interior features designs from the collections he has created with some of Europe’s finest brands; diners are comfortably seated in chairs for &Tradition and Fritz Hansen, lights from Parachilna add warmth, setting a mood of carefully constructed comfort and elegance. His signature graphic elements appear in the doorways and windows in the form of playful dots. The rich red tones of the restaurant are reflected in the chic seating by Expormim that invite people to sit and enjoy a cocktail in Inventario, the bistro bar that accompanies the restaurant space, set on the other side of this central Valencia location. The tones and the mood change as you move from the more formal dining setting to this casual but sophisticated lounge, marble on table tops and behind the curved bar create a classic feel and the carefully curated selection of artwork and curiosities that decorate the walls, provide conversation starters as you enjoy this chic new addition to Valencia’s dining and drinking scene.

Hayon has created for both the restaurant and the bar, a modish mix of urbane sophistication, mixed with an inviting Mediterranean warmth.
