The Fantasy Collection

The creations in The Fantasy collection which Jaime Hayon has designed for Lladro, mirror the perfect fusion between the artistic quality of the Spanish porcelain brand and the playful, fantasy quality the designer brings to his works. The balance between expression and function, the studied combination of Lladro’s usual themes and the magic of the unexpected that Hayon is known for, make these pieces truly original objects that, over and above their decorative potential, awaken a sense of fantasy in the beholder.

Crystal Candy Set for Baccarat

The opportunity to research and exercise creative possibilities along with Baccarat led to the creation of the Crystal Candy Set. The approach was guided by the search for exquisite color and material combinations. With these pieces, I wanted to replicate the richness of fresh tropical fruit using crystal and other materials, such as ceramics. Using a variety of textures and thicknesses, a new game of reflection has been accomplished with each of the 9 characters that make up the collection. Diverse crystal cutting techniques can be appreciated throughout the collection. They result in a series of soft, feminine shapes with touch of humor. Fruity inspirations are mixed with gem like features: pineapples, pomegranates, golf balls and water drops are some of the ideas explored. The pieces are a limited edition of 25.

Bosa By Hayon

Hayon has collaborated with Bosa Ceramiche for over a decade. Various collections have been designed throughout the years. A family run business based in Borsa del Grappa, is fully dedicated to creating the finest ceramic crafts. ‘Hope Bird’ is a tabletop-sized sculpture that symbolises the importance of “an optimistic approach to what lies ahead”. Designed for Italian ceramics manufacturer Bosa, the Hope Bird stands tall and proud in a watchful position, working to convey a message about “standing tall” and being positive. As the Hope Bird looks toward the horizon, the 72cm-high sculpture invites viewers to reflect on why it is important to have a “glass half full” attitude. New ceramic side tables in two distinctive shapes, using contrasting metallic lacquered finishes. The mushroom shaped ‘T-Table’ comes in gold, copper or white. The ‘Joya’ tables have a contrasting metallic finish with angled diamond shaped edges curved around the top. ‘Horamur’, this elegant piece is made in white leather and ceramic. The use of a leather strap and shape of the ceramic piece – reminiscent of a decorative plate – invokes historic kitchens and practicality with a modern, decorative twist. ‘Fantasmico’ is reinterpretation of a mantel clock has a ghostly silhouette – quiet wink to the traditional historical mantel clocks that are often dark and gloomy.  ‘Fantasmico’ is a simple and contemporary version of this decorative/utilitarian piece.

Baccarat Candy Lights

It has the attraction of a character in a play, ready to go on stage – all restrained but elegant, unashamedly possessed by its history. Jaime Hayon has now created his first lamps for Baccarat. A lighting design personified in three colours (copper, platinum and white), based on a same creative script. Named Candy Light, the trio of lamps is a distillation of rich textures and materials, a subtle conjoining of ceramic base and clear, cut-crystal shade. Delicately inserted into the base, the switch embodied by a Baccarat red crystal pendant triggers and diffuses the light even as it controls it. Between its ceramic base and its crystal shade the outline takes shape and creates an impression of bountiful perfection, enhanced, when lit, by a delicately embossed waffle collar. When the object turns into a living presence, Hayon transmutes the crystal into a light finery and the surrounding space becomes inhabited.

The Guest

Unexpected, captivating, unique… this is The Guest, a singular character from the Spanish artistic porcelain brand conceived by Jaime Hayon for Lladró Atelier. The Guest project is an invitation to cutting-edge artists from around the world to lend a distinctive personality to this charismatic porcelain being. The outcome of this joint endeavour can be seen in the first pieces from the collection. The Guests come in two sizes, the large in a limited edition of 250 units and the small in a numbered series.

FORMA / Choemon Gama Porcelain

Hirotoshi Maruwaka, the producer of Maruwakaya, asked Hayon if he was interested in working with Kamide Choemon-gama, a pottery of one of Japan’s most acclaimed traditional porcelain crafts, Kutaniyaki. The answer was a resounding yes. Drawing from key ideas in Japanese culture concerning relations and links between the people at the table, food, seasons and table wares, the goal was to create pieces that help people recognise these relationships. The resulting ‘FORMA’ series of beautifully crafted bowls, cups and vessels is a sensitive balance between the design ideals and philosophies of two cultures. First shown in 2010 in a palette of rich blue and white with red accents, this elegant white and gold collection for 2012 draws attention away from pattern to focus on the simplcity and elegance of the forms themselves.

The Baccarat Zoo

In the style of a crystal menagerie, thought like an astonishing bestiary, Jaime Hayon signs in 2011 the Baccarat ZOO. A collection in the spirit of its Crystal Set Candy designed in 2009 and its Candy Light launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2011. Thereby continues the parade of material combinations. Halfway between a glamorous sweet box and a decorative object, Hayon combines the sparkle of crystal with porcelain and gives birth to a wildlife triptych, both playful and democratic.
