“Backstage: Jaime Hayon, from the Imaginary to Real” by Jaime Hayon is a retrospective exhibition that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the designer’s creative process. Held in 2018 as part of the Madrid Design Festival, and curated by Ana Dominguez Siemens, the exhibition was a showcase of Hayon’s diverse portfolio, presenting some of the work he has created for Cassina, Parachilna, Magis, BD Barcelona Design, Bosa, Expormim, Vista Alegre, Wittmann, Maruwakaya, Lladró, Ceccotti, Paola C, Fritz Hansen, &Tradition and Arflex.
The exhibition’s name, “Backstage”, highlights its core concept: to reveal the sources of inspiration and the creative journey behind Hayon’s work. Transparently sharing the direct influences that led to his final pieces, its aim is not to be a mere catalogue of furniture and objects but the trajectory of Hayon’s designs.
