The Papabubble artisan candy shop in Yokohama, a collaboration between designers Yusuke Seki and Jaime Hayon, offers a unique retail experience focused on transparency and craftsmanship. Given the minimalist nature and spatial focus of Seki’s design, Jaime was tasked with infusing the space with a more pronounced sense of character and identity through his decorative elements.
Hayon’s design vision is evident in the custom-designed elements that infuse personality into the “laboratory” aesthetic. He conceived the striking glass decanters and utensils, transforming ordinary tools into captivating objects inspired by the artisans’ candy-making performance. Notably, the one-off crystal bottles, crafted by Massimo Lunardon of Venice, stand as iconic, colorful vessels for the liquid ingredients, distinguishing this boutique globally. Furthermore, diamond and octagon-shaped windows, arrayed like chocolates, add a whimsical touch to the shop’s facade, reflecting Hayon’s signature playful yet sophisticated approach to design.
